Middle School

The middle school years, coming at the onset of adolescence, are a time when a rigorous, yet informative, environment is crucial for your child. The Highlands School curriculum prepares 6-8 grade students for the academic demands of college preparatory and Advanced Placement® high school achievement in a variety of disciplines in both the arts and sciences.

Middle School Curriculum

Our middle school students master the details of English grammar and develop writing skills. Reading comprehension instruction focuses on a broad group of skills supported by the study of novels, poetry, short stories and drama chosen from among the classics. Comprehension skills are enhanced through the promotion of quarterly individual student independent reading goals using Renaissance Reading’s® web-based tracking and reporting program, Accelerated Reader®. Students also learn basic science concepts through classroom labs and participate in robust visual arts and performing arts programs.

Ready for High School

We prepare our middle school students to approach the academic rigors of high school with confidence. During their eighth-grade year, students receive high school credits in Spanish and French and take Honors High School Algebra I.
What Families Are Saying
“We are firm believers in RC Education and the pursuit of integral formation of the child. Students are taught to think critically and seek truth, instructed in virtue, fed spiritually through sacraments and prayer and given opportunities to serve others. We found all of this at THS as well as a safe and supportive community of educators and parents where our kids and family can thrive.”
